 What can I say?

You all know how I sincerely love and enjoy this series. I love the action, fast-paced plot, the characters, the twists, David's witty writing style, the setting, the idea. Pretty much everything. The Moon Dwellers caught me at page 50. The Star Dwellers at page 10. And I just have to be honest, but The Sun Dwellers--ah, yes, yes--the Sun Dwellers is just a little bit too fast, yet too slow for me. Haha! Sorry about that, but I can't find the right word for it. 

I guess it's too fast because it left me off with a gazillion questions in mind. Questions like why put Sinus, Linew, and Bren? What happened to the war (aside from the bonus story)? Why kill Mom (guess whose Mom) when all the while we expected her to be alive and kicking? Nevertheless these are just trivial questions. :) It didn't make the series anything less than fantastic! Oh, David. You're a natural comic. :)

On with the third book, the Sun Dwellers brought its readers into a deeper intimacy with our main characters: Adele, Tristan, Roc, Tawni, Trevor, and Ram. Essential info will be revealed about them. Yeah I know you've memorized every detail about them in Books 1 & 2, but hold that thought because you might miss a quarter of your life if you won't read this! *just saying*

Anyway, the plot picks right where The Star Dwellers ended. Our six leading dwellers are on their way to the Sun Realm to uhmm...kill President Nailin. On their way, *tiny spoiler #1* Adele is having second thoughts about TRISTAN! Ugh. I can't believe she's doubting him! Hmp. When they reach the Sun Realm, they're in for a mega-awesome cool realm party! Yup, that's right. It means that everyone will be out on the road dancing, singing, jamming, partying! And it also means that it'll be harder for them to hide. T.T 

Eventually they'll reach the president's palace, but it doesn't end there. The story's just beginning to unfold. Oh yes, SECRETS and SECRETS and lots of SECRETS will be revealed! And of course, people--the ones we love!!!--will die. :( So sad, but I bet you don't want to be left behind, do you? X

Without further ado, I present to you.... *drumroll
THE SUN DWELLERS by David Estes! 

P.S. It has a fourth book!!!! All this time I thought it was a trilogy!!! David better not be serious about November 2013, though. I'll go crazy!!!! T.T

The Animal Farm written by George Orwell (1977) revolves mainly on the struggle of the Manor Farm animals against human aggression and the totalitarian rule that the animals experienced after the revolution. An old boar named Old Major inspires the animals to hold a revolution against the tyrannical human beings. He claims that the human beings simply exploit their resources and energy. They steal the fruits of their labor and give the animals little or even nothing in return. He calls them to stand up and stop the ruthless and unjust rule of the humans. After Old Major dies, the animals did not expect the revolution to take place so early. They overthrow the humans and have the Manor Farm—which they change into Animal Farm—to themselves. Two pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, harmonize and adapt Old Major’s teaching into the Principles of Animalism. There they create the Seven Commandments, which state that those with two legs are enemies and those with more legs are friends, no one should wear clothes, sleep in a bed, drink alcohol, kill another animal, and finally, all animals are equals. Napoleon is not good to begin with so he casts Snowball out of the Animal Farm, discredits his good intentions, and speaks ill about him. Eventually, the freedom and the prosperous living that the animals achieved are subtly suppressed by Napoleon until he only deceives them about their true social and political condition. The animals work harder and receive less food than before, but Squealer the spokesperson of Napoleon deceives them that they actually are more prosperous. This continues for years until the animals are mere slaves of their own kind, but the pigs live more prosperous than ever. In the end, the animals can no longer distinguish the pigs from the humans. They can no longer see which is which.
The Animal Farm is both an allegory and fable that is rooted upon the historical events of the Russian Revolution and Soviet Communism, where Orwell expresses his strongest opposition against communism. Each character in Animal Farm symbolizes a particular historical character: Old Major, Napoleon, Snowball, Squealer, Benjamin, and Boxer to name a few.
Old Major represents Karl Marx and his philosophy about social classes. Karl Marx believes that history is the history of class struggle. He points out two social classes: the working class and the owner class. He says that the working class toil to produce the desired goods while the owner class do nothing but enjoys the fruits of the working class’ labors. Inequality then arises from the divisions of the social class. Hence, Marx points out that social class must be abolished and it can be achieved through a revolution (Thomas as cited in Boucher & Kelly, 2010). Napoleon represents no less than Joseph Stalin himself. The totalitarian rule of Napoleon, his use of the menacing guard dogs, and the unjust killings and workload that he imposes upon the animals reflect Stalin’s rule. On the other hand, Snowball symbolizes Leon Trotsky, who was Stalin’s political rival whom he banished and killed. Snowball represents Trotsky’s belief of the possibility of a utopia. Next is Squealer, who deliberately deceives his fellow animals into believing that their condition is better because of Napoleon’s leadership. Squealer represents the Russian press Pravda, which spreads news that are contrary to the truth. Benjamin is another interesting character because he knows the ill-doings of Napoleon and the pigs and yet, he does nothing. Benjamin represents the group of people that were aware of Stalin’s injustice and yet, remain cynical and uninvolved. Boxer is like Benjamin. Although he lacks knowledge about the truth, he has the skills and ability to overthrow Napoleon and fight the dogs, but still he follows and reveres Napoleon. Boxer symbolizes the working class who blindly follows Stalin’s orders in the belief that he will protect him because of their hard work.
 Animal Farm touches upon a number of themes. Among these are class struggle, politics, language, human rights, and equality. He illustrates how class struggle creates inequality among the members of the society. In Animal Farm, Owell shows this through the division between the pigs and the rest of the animals. The pigs acquire better treatment because they claim that they are intellectuals. They assert that the job of the mind is difficult and thus, they must receive larger and better food supply than the rest. Politics and human rights are linked with each other. Orwell shows that if the form of rule is unjust, the citizens will also be deprived of their natural rights. Through the totalitarian rule of Napoleon, Orwell shows the oppression of its fellow animals. Another important theme in the novel is the power of language. Orwell demonstrates that language can change black to white. It can manipulate the minds of the listeners and distort the truth.

I am DEFINITELY LOVING this series!

Remember my review about Wilde's Fire having substance? Yeah? Well, there's more! This book doesn't just have substance, but values as well! I should say, this book is very decent! I seriously recommended it to all ages! Trust me, it won't give you an eerie feeling when reading that part (you'll know what I mean when you get there :P).

Wilde's Army picks up where Wilde's Fire ended. Everyone is gone, even Arland. They've all been taken away by the daemons, but Kate is left in Watcher's Hall, unharmed and protected. Someone hid her from the daemons, but who? Then Perth, the Ground Dweller whom Kate is forced to marry, sees her. She isn't alone after all. Kate doesn't love Perth, in fact, she doesn't trust him at all. Everybody in Encardia doesn't trust the Ground Dwellers because they are evil. They use their magic against nature. But Perth offers to help Kate save everybody else. How come Perth wasn't taken by the daemons? Can Kate trust him? Or does Perth have any hidden motives for his actions? 

The tension rises when everybody gets to Willow Falls. Their stay there can make or break the future of Encardia. While Arland and Kate are destined to be Bound (a.k.a. married), Perth's father, Dufaigh, will do everything in his power to stop it. Dufaigh thirsts for power that only Kate can give. And Kate's marriage to Perth is what he needs to prevent Arland from being the High Leader and to secure the position to Perth. So once they reach Willow Falls, Dufaigh will rush everybody for Kate and Perth's marriage. Aaaah! And the problem doesn't even end there. Once Dufaigh learns that Kate is in love with Arland and not with this son, he won't let a second pass without Arland's cold body in his hand. *creepy* 

Ookay. There's still another burden to carry. Kate has to unite everybody: the Light Lovers, Sea Dwellers, and Ground Dwellers. Given the fact that the Light Lovers and the Ground Dwellers are in war for centuries, uniting them is close to impossible. Will Kate be able to unite Dufaigh (the man who wants to use her for power), High Leade Maher (Arland's father who keeps something from them), and Murchadha (the Leader of Sea Dweller who lies to Arland)? Or will she face the Darkness alone?

Krystal Wade amazes me once again in Wilde's Army! :) Brace yourself for a creepier, more exciting, and more heart pounding paranormal romance! :) I can't believe Wilde's Meadow won't be out 'til Novembeeer! O.O I can't wait! @.@

MAJOR LESSONS LEARNED

1. Save yourself for marriage! ;)
True! When you save yourself for marriage, the bond is truly pure and intact. Just like Kate and _______, their bond isn't like any other. It's so strong, so pure, and so powerful! I believe the same thing applies in real life. Love that transcends bodily desires is so pure that the bond between the couple would be unbreakable. :)

2. Don't just conform with the general trend. Stand up for the truth!
A lot of the Draiochtans, Light Lovers and Groud Dwellers alike, have simply conformed with the majority. Centuries have passed, yet they allowed Foghlad and Dufaigh to take over them. They allowed fear to take control. They did nothing, though they knew they were treading the wrong path. But Kate is different. With all the courage she has, she stands up and fights for the truth!

This book is F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!

Honestly, I liked this book. Though I've read a lot of typos and negative reviews about it, it didn't stop me from reading and enjoying Wilde's Fire! :) 

When I read YA books, I read it like I'm reading Shakespeare! I delve into the words until I get its meaning, significance, and implications in the real world. And to tell you the truth, THIS BOOK HAS SUBSTANCE! :)

This story reveals us the true identity of Kate and how her life can save her world.

Kate goes camping with her younger sister Brit and bestfriend Brad in Goat Ridge, their "secret" camping site. Along the hike, Kate experiences five of the weirdest things on earth. First, she sees another dream. This is just one of the thousands of dreams (or should I say, nightmares) she has been experiencing for the last six years. Most of her nightmares show horrifying creatures killing Arland, the love of her life whom she hasn't met. Will Kate hold on to Arland even if she sees him only in her dreams?

Second is Brad's actions. They've been the best of friends since childhood. He hasn't shown any interest in Kate, but during the hike, he's been acting differently. He starts to show signs that are new to their friendship. Will he finally confess his love for Kate? Will they be a couple?

Third is the yellow light. While on camp, Kate sees a yellow light. She ignores it because others won't believe her. At midnight, the yellow light shows up again. This time it leads Kate to the swimming hole. Can she trust the yellow light?

Fourth is the portal. When Kate, Brit, and Brad go to the swimming hole, the yellow light appears again. It directs them to what appears to be an underwater cave. Unfortunately, it's not. It's a portal connecting two worlds: Earth and Encardia. 

Fifth is Encardia. Darkness has subdued Encardia for almost 20 years. It kills everything that has life, destroys nature, and hides sunlight. What will you do if all your nightmares are true? The monsters, the people, the killings...they're all true.

What will you do if 20 years of your life was only a lie? If you discover that you're the only one who can save your own world? If your family and bestfriend are in danger? And if the only key to rekindle your power is unknown?

Wilde's Fire is a hair-raising-fast-paced-fantasy-action that will make your heart pound like there's no tomorrow! So visual was the writing that you will feel the terror of the war creep through your senses! I can't wait to read the sequel!

Major Lessons Learned

1. Learn to value Nature and things of little or great value before it's too late. 
The two worlds gave me this insight. Encardia was under the power of Darkness for almost 20 years. Everything that has life died: the trees, the insects, even the people. The survivors had to protect and value everything that was left. They saw the food as if it were the last drop of water in the desert. 

A complete opposite of this was life on Earth. Here, we have everything we need for survival: the sun, the rivers, the trees, the air, the animals, the fishes, the people.....and the list goes on. But we squander it all like we have an unlimited resources. We exploit what natural resources we have! 

I pray that we don't have to experience the same suffering in Encardia before we realize how blessed we are for our Nature! Let's start to value our environment. Little actions count!

2. Pure love is the key.
[If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3]
Even if you have all the riches and powers of this world, but if you don't have love, it will be nothing. We should remember that from pure love springs forth justice, peace, forgiveness, unity, and joy. But we must surrender ourselves to the source of Pure Love, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, just as Kate submitted to source of True Light and Love.

An epic experience for a surprisingly epic book! 

Remember my epic experience with Barnes & Noble? Yeah, totally epic fail! Anyway, I was beyond excited when I got a chance to review this book for free! Unfortunately, I don't have the credit card that Barnes&Noble requires so I wasn't able to redeem this interesting free dystopian e-book. :( But then, God's little blessing came! :) Thanks to David Estes--who did everything in his power to fix things up--I now have a copy of this awesome dystopian book!

I read this book for two days and I ended up fighting my closing eyelids at four in the morning to finish this action-packed novel! It is that good! The varying tones of the characters are also entertaining! I mean, seldom will you encounter a really good book with characters of distinct voices! I bet you'll enjoy that in The Moon Dwellers! And that joy wouldn't be complete without the not-just-likable-but-looovable charactersAdele. Tristan. Roc. (Oh, you'll love Tristan and Roc! Such a funny tandem!) Tawni. Cole. El. <3 <3 <3 
Each of them carry a story. Each story, a lesson. 

Okay, enough of the babbling. Let's move on to the story. Well, you pretty much read the summary on Goodreads, but let me give my own version ;)

Adele (BTW her name suits her) is not your ordinary heroine. She's gorgeous, tough, courageous, wise, family-oriented, and character-driven! When her parents are taken by the Enforcers and her younger sister is sent out to the orphanage, Adele is thrown in jail for the rest of her life. As part of her daily routine at the Pen (the jail), she sits across the fence that overlooks her hometown. One time, everything seems to fall in its place when her eyes lock with Tristan's, the President's eldest son. Soon they'll have this ineffable yearning to be with each other and to fulfill what they're called to do; such a strong yearning that outdares even the harshest of all sufferings and the most horrid of deaths in the Tri-Realms.

As soon as Adele and her friends, Tawni and Cole, escape the Pen to save Adele's family, Tristan, together with his bestfriend Roc, leaves the comfort of his father's palace to look for Adele and to carry out the noble task they have yet to understand.

Will Adele be able to save her family? Are they still alive? Will Tristan and Adele ever meet? What will happen to the Tri-Realms if the President learns that three prisoners escaped and that his son defied him?
Answer: Ha! :) Check it out. ;)

Major Lessons Learned:


1. Value your family because they will never leave you even at your darkest times. 

I got this from Adele. She really was brought up well even with their family's condition. We'll see that though her family is taken by the Enforcers, she'll do everything that she can to save them. She'll do everything even if it costs her life and personal joy. We'll also see that the same thing applies to her family. Though they're in pain and suffering, they never lost their hope and trust for each other. Their support and love remain intact despite the catastrophes that try to break them apart.

2. Each one of us has the will to resist the evil that is being imposed upon us.

This is very true to Tristan and Tawni. They both have parents who are agents of evil, yet they try to step up and resist the evil. It doesn't mean that because one person pushes you to do evil things, you have to do it. NO! You have the free will to overthrow this temptation and fight for the good!

The Moon Dwellers will surely captivate you even in the early few chapters! I also find the use of two POVs very effective because each POV ends with a cliffhanger and it'll make you crave for more! =) My only problem was the ending. Seriously, they just met and it'll end like that way? I'm torn. But I guess, that makes me even more desperate to read Book 2! :) I'm just hoping it isn't infected with the second book syndrome!!! Heehee. I'll watch for Book 2 this September! :) Oh! Before I forget, it has such beautiful writing! It's well crafted and is really funny! =))

I'm seriously left behind in class! Just like Jacqueline, I missed class for two weeks! Not because of a heartbreak, though. Heehee. Anyway, I was admitted in a hospital because of Dengue Fever stage II and I just went to class a while ago. When I asked my professors for a remedial class, I was hoping to get a tutor as cool as Landon. Unfortunately, my professors have yet to read "Easy" since they told me to catch up the lessons by myself! Ugh! Talk about unfair. How come I don't get a one-on-one e-mail tutorial session??? How come there's no Landon Maxwell to save me from my two-week ignorance of Political Thought, Southeast Asian Studies, Ethics, Japanese Studies, Medieval Literature, and Majors! See what I mean? Landon Maxwell could be really helpful right now.

Really, guys. Easy by Tammara Webber is that good. I just have to remind you, though, that it contains mature subjects and themes

I was surprised by how heavy the plot is. I don't actually support some of Jacqueline and Lucas' decisions, but I'll leave it up to you to decide. Meanwhile, I'll share three lessons I got from the book. 
Here it goes!

1. Don't let your past take away your future. It doesn't define who you are today and who you'll be in the future. Live life like there's no second chance!

I got this from both Jacqueline and Lucas. Jacqueline throws away her dream of entering a prestigious music school to follow her boyfriend in a State University, only to find out that he'll break up with her just before their 3rd year anniversary. Jacqueline is devastated and she'll rather fail the class than to sit beside her ex for an hour-long Economics class! Thankfully, her bestfriend/roommate and Econ professor help her to get back to her feet. Her bestfriend starts to encourage her to come to class and her professor gives her a cool and intelligent personal tutor, Landon Maxwell.

The past of Lucas is rather heart-wrenching and tragic to the point that he almost stopped living by wasting himself. His father, a Ph.D. holder and a well-known scholar, shut down his senses and rationality because their horrid past is too much to bear. Thanks to Dr. Heller, Lucas is spared from a dead-life.

2. Do not fear. Step up. Let your voice be heard.

Two weeks after their breakup, Jacqueline is almost raped by a brotherhood rival of his ex. Good thing, Lucas is there to stop him. Knowing the shame that she'll get, Jacqueline decides to keep the incident a secret until it happens again. She escapes the second time around, but not her bestfriend's sorority friend. That's the only time they relayed the rape cases to the authority; however, they'll have to face the consequences of their prolonged silence.

3. Follow your dreams. 

That includes your heart's desire. Jacqueline will eventually decide if she'll pursue a degree in music or education. And she'll also have to face her heart. Whom does she love the most? Her ex? Landon Maxwell? or Lucas?

I was actually surprised. I never thought I'd like Lola and the Boy Next Door. Honestly, I was purposely ignoring this book because I was discouraged by its negative reviews. I mean, who wouldn't be discouraged by the hundreds of raves? Yeah, so what I did was I pushed this book to the end of my reading list as much as I could. Mean, huh? But then I really loooove Stephanie Perkins! She made me fall head over heels for Anna and the French Kiss, so I was still secretly craving for Lola and the Boy Next Door. Apparently, I couldn't hold myself anymore and I finally buried my nose on its pages! Ha! :)

Okay, let me start. There were a lot of issues that bothered me in this book. Issues that I won't tolerate in real life. But then, I admired Stephanie Perkins. I admired the way she crafted these controversial issues without making it sound that she supports them OR rejects them. She just lays all of them on the table and leaves a room for us to ponder and decide. 

Concealing these issues is the story of Lola. She's a creative 17 year old girl who loves to dress up everyday. She vows to never repeat the same garment in a year! Unbelievable. So, she has this huge crush on his gorgeous neighbor, Cricket. They've been the best of friends until Cricket's 16th birthday. Cricket's family moved into a new place in order to make way for Calliope's, Cricket's twin, training. Cricket and Lola didn't part ways really well. So after Cricket's family moved, Lola was left heartbroken and rejected. 

Cricket's family is gone for two years and Lola tries her very best to forget him and move on. She did, well she thought she did. She got a new boyfriend, a band vocalist, who is way way way older than her. This made her parents anxious about her boyfriend. They never allowed Lola to go out with him without a series of interrogation and check-up calls.

When everything seems good for Lola, that's when Cricket's family returned. They've changed a lot, especially Cricket. He's still unbelievably good looking and gorgeous, but he seems different. He acts differently. He's A LOT nicer and A LOT sweeter to Lola! That's because he's undeniably, deeply, and truly in love with Lola since time immemorial! Sweeeeet. <3

But when Cricket admits this to Lola, her happy life becomes a lot more complicated. She becomes crowded with confused feelings, mixed emotions, and abrupt decisions. How would Lola manage this situation? What would happen to Cricket knowing that Lola has a boyfriend? How would Lola handle the issues pressuring her?

It's pretty cool. :) I think you'll like it. :) Cricket is awesome <3 HA HA! =)) PLUS Anna and Etienne are here in the book! <3 <3 <3 Though I was a bit disappointed because I can't recognize their voices. They didn't sound like themselves from the first book, but then I guess I'm just thinking too much. :P Overall, the book's fun to read.
